Questions & Answers
BEFORE YOU BUY (General Questions)
How does HearSound compare to older analog TV listening devices?
Older analog TV listening systems rely on outdated infrared (IR) technology that requires a direct line of sight between the headset and transmitter. Their transmitters must stay visible — often with bright, distracting LED lights — and their charging cradles must be positioned near the TV, forcing you to get up and walk over every time you recharge. The ultimate inconvenience.
HearSound USA is completely different.
Our digital wireless system delivers crystal-clear audio through walls and up to 100 feet away, with no line of sight required. The sleek hideaway transmitter stays out of view for a clean, modern look, while the charging cradle can be placed conveniently near your chair or bedside for easy access. HearSound is built for comfort, freedom, and simplicity — designed for the way you actually live.
How do I know if HearSound will work with my TV before I buy?
Check the back or side of your TV for a connection labeled Digital Audio Output (Optical) (preferred) or a headphone jack. Most TVs built in the last 20+ years include an Digital Audio Output (Optical) port. You can also confirm by checking your TV’s owner’s manual or downloading the manual online to review the audio output options. If you’re still unsure, send us your TV’s make and model at https://hearsoundusa.com/pages/contact
and we’ll confirm compatibility for you before you purchase.
Is HearSound easy to set up and connect to my TV?
Yes. Setting up HearSound only takes a couple of steps. Connect two cables to the transmitter: one audio cable (we recommend the included Digital Optical Audio Cable) and one power cable. Both are provided in the package. After that, simply pair your HearSound headset, headphones or SoundBall to the transmitter. Most customers are up and running in minutes. If you’d like extra help, we also offer step-by-step videos and free one-on-one U.S.-based email and phone support.
What if it doesn't work with my TV?
HearSound is designed to work with 99% of TVs, thanks to its compatibility with a variety of input options. In the rare case that it doesn’t work for your setup, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund. Simply reach out to us to start the process.
Can I use HearSound with the TV on mute?
Yes, you can. The volume on each HearSound device is controlled independently from the TV, so you can mute the TV and still enjoy your shows through your HearSound products!
Can I control the volume of my HearSound separately from the TV volume?
Yes. When you connect your HearSound system with the provided Digital Optical Audio Cable, you can raise or lower the volume on your HearSound headset without changing the TV’s volume. You can listen at the level that’s comfortable for you while others keep the TV volume at their preferred level. If you’d like, the TV volume can even be muted or turned all the way down while you continue listening through HearSound product.
Can two people use HearSound devices at the same time?
Yes! Two people can enjoy HearSound products simultqneously together by pairing an additional headset, headphone, or SoundBall speaker with the same transmitter. For the best shared experience, check out our Double Platinum Bundle, which includes everything you need with dual headsets and a convenient dual charging cradle.
Can multiple HearSound headsets, headphones, or SoundBalls connect to one transmitter?
Yes, multiple HearSound products can pair with a single transmitter at the same time. Many customers purchase a second headset—so there’s always a fully charged backup ready—ensuring you stay connected and immersed without missing a single moment of what you’re watching.
I have a soundbar connected to my TV. Can I still use HearSound?
Yes. If your soundbar is already using the Digital Audio Output (Optical) on your TV, there are two solutions:
• If your soundbar has an HDMI (ARC) connection: Connect your soundbar to the TV with an HDMI cable. This frees up the Digital Audio Output (Optical) port for the HearSound transmitter.
• If your soundbar does not have HDMI (ARC) connection: You can use a digital optical audio splitter (one male to two female). This allows both the soundbar and HearSound transmitter to share the same digital optical output to connect both your soundbar and HearSound transmitter at the same time. This setup lets connect both devices without changing your existing TV setup. These digital optical audio splitters are inexpensive and available online at retailers like Amazon.
If you’d like a recommendation, please contact us at https://hearsoundusa.com/pages/contact
(Note: We do not sell splitters directly.)
How far away can I use my HearSound product from the transmitter?
Up to 100 feet, depending on walls, obstacles, and distance. In many homes, this means you can move into adjoining rooms or step outdoors nearby and still hear clearly. You do not need line-of-sight like outdated products from out competitors.
Do I need line of sight between the headset and the transmitter?
No. HearSound products use digital wireless technology and do not require line of sight. You can move freely around the room, into nearby rooms, and even outdoors if you stay within the typical 100-foot range.
Can I use HearSound with Netflix, Amazon Prime, or other streaming apps?
Yes. HearSound works with all streaming apps since it connects directly to your TV’s audio output.
Can HearSound be used with hearing aids?
We do not recommend using your hearing aids while using HearSound headphones or headsets, since our products are designed to provide a clear, personalized listening experience on their own. With sound levels up to 110dB, HearSound offers an excellent way to give your ears a break from hearing aids while still enjoying clear, amplified TV sound.
Do I have to get up to charge my headset?
No—you don’t have to get up to charge your headset. Place the charging cradle or cable where you watch TV (bedside or chairside) so it’s always within reach. If you have the Platinum or Double Platinum models, the cradle can sit right next to your chair or couch for quick drop-in charging.
What kind of support does HearSound offer?
We provide step-by-step setup videos, step-by-step guides, and U.S.-based personalized support. Visit our Setup Videos or Contact Support for one-on-one assistance.
Do you offer a discount for U.S. military families and retirees?
Absolutely. At HearSound USA, we’re proud to honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country. U.S. military members, veterans, and their families can receive an exclusive discount by using the promo code “USA” at checkout.
It’s our small way of saying thank you for your courage, commitment, and service. We salute you — today and every day.
GETTING STARTED (Setup & Charging)
How long should I charge my HearSound before first use?
We recommend charging your HearSound for at least 8 hours prior to first use.
How do I know if my HearSound product is charging correctly?
•Gold: The blue light will flash while charging. If the light does not flash, make sure the charging cable is fully seated into the headset until it clicks.
•Platinum & Double Platinum: Place the headset into the charging cradle. The cradle has no lights — look for the blue light on the headset itself. The headset will insert in either direction, but it will only fully connect and charge when placed in the correct orientation. A small groove on the headset lines up with the guide inside the cradle.
•SoundBall: A small red light next to the charging port will blink while charging. The red light is purposely very faint so it will not disturb you while sleeping. The red light will stop blinking once charging is complete.
What do I do if the blue light does not flash while charging?
Gold: Make sure the USB-C cable is pushed all the way into the headset until it clicks. Confirm that you are using the included USB-C cable, that it is connected to the provided USB wall adapter, and that the wall adapter is plugged into power.
Platinum & Double Platinum: Reinsert the headset into the cradle in the correct orientation.
The Tone button should face the front of the cradle (away from the rear power and audio connections).
Can I use my HearSound headset while it is charging?
For your safety and best performance, HearSound headsets are not designed to be used while charging. Please allow the headset to fully charge before using it again.
If you’d like to keep enjoying your TV while your primary headset charges, consider adding a second HearSound headset or a SoundBall wireless speaker — both connect to the same transmitter, so you can continue listening without interruption.
Should I leave my HearSound product turned on while charging?
No. For the best charging performance, always charge your HearSound with the power turned off.
How long can I watch TV on a full charge?
Depending on the model, HearSound typically provides several hours of listening time on a full charge (exact runtime varies by product and listening volume levels). Many customers purchase an Extra Headset so that they always have one charged and ready-to-use.
CONNECTING & PAIRING
How do I pair my HearSound headset, headphones, or SoundBall with the transmitter?
Follow our step-by-step video guides:
• Headset Pairing Video
• Headphone Pairing Video
• SoundBall Pairing Video
Or if you would like to download the Setup Manuals:
Why is my headset flashing blue when I’m not charging it?
A flashing blue light (when not charging) means the headset or headphones are not paired with the transmitter. Follow the pairing steps or use the video guides above to re-pair.
Which audio cable should I use to connect HearSound to my TV?
We recommend using the included Digital Optical Audio Cable optical audio cable for the best sound quality. This connection also allows you to adjust the volume of your HearSound product independently of your TV’s volume, so others in the room can keep the TV volume at their preferred level.
How do I remove the protective rubber tips from the Digital Optical Audio Cable?
Each end of the digital optical cable ships with a small rubber cap to protect it. Before connecting, gently pull just the tip to remove the cap. The bag also includes a yellow sticker reminding you of this step.
Why am I not getting sound when using the AUX cable?
Make sure the AUX cable is plugged into an audio output on your TV. If you connect the AUX cable to an audio inputinstead, no sound will be heard.
Some TVs limit or disable AUX audio depending on their settings. For the best sound quality and compatibility, we recommend using the Digital Optical Audio Cable connection included with your HearSound system.
Do I need to change settings in my TV menu to use HearSound?
In most cases, on most TVs, no changes are required. If you use the preferred Digital Optical Audio Cable and still don’t hear sound, some TVs may require you to adjust the audio output to PCM in the TV’s menu. This is common on Samsung and LG televisions. On certain LG TVs, you may also need to select “TV Speakers + Digital Audio Out” in the sound menu. USING HEARSOUND (Daily Use & Features)
What does the TONE button do?
The Tone button lets you choose between three listening presets: increased bass, increased treble, or flat. Try each preset until you find the one that makes voices and TV sound easiest for you to understand.
Quickly tap the Tone button to cycle through the three listening presets.
IMPORTANT: Do not press and hold the Tone button for too long—a long press will unpair your headset/headphones from the transmitter.
Can HearSound be used with hearing aids?
We do not recommend using your hearing aids while using HearSound headphones or headsets, since our products are designed to provide a clear, personalized listening experience on their own. With sound levels up to 110dB, HearSound offers an excellent way to give your ears a break from hearing aids while still enjoying clear, personalized amplified TV sound.
Can others in the room still hear the TV while I use HearSound?
Yes. When using the recommended Digital Optical Audio Cable connection, HearSound volume is adjusted independently. This allows you to set your own preferred volume while others in the room listen to the TV speakers at their preferred level. And if you prefer, the TV volume can be turned all the way down—or even muted—while your HearSound products still deliver full, clear sound directly to you.
Where should I place my Platinum charging cradle?
We’ve designed the Platinum and Double Platinum charging cradles with convenience in mind. Unlike competitor products that require the charging base to stay near the TV, HearSound cradles can be placed right next to your chair, couch, or even bedside. This makes it easy to place your headset for charging without having to get up and walk across the room when it's time to recharge.
Can I use HearSound while lying in bed?
Yes. HearSound works in bedrooms just like in living rooms. With the Platinum or Double Platinum models, you can even place the charging cradle bedside for convenient charging while watching TV in bed.
Are there different sound settings to make the audio clearer?
Yes. HearSound offers three sound profiles through the Tone button: one boosts bass, another boosts treble, and one is flat. Each setting changes the way voices and background sounds are balanced. Try each until you find the one that makes speech the clearest for you.
IMPORTANT: Do not press and hold the Tone button for too long—a long press will unpair your headset/headphones from the transmitter.
Does HearSound reduce background noise?
HearSound does not use active noise cancellation or electronic filtering. However, the way the products fit can naturally block outside sounds: Theater (over-ear) headphones cover most of your ear, and Gold and Platinum in-ear headsets sit inside the ear canal. These physical designs reduce some of the noise you hear from your surroundings, while the Tone button can make TV voices easier to follow.
TROUBLESHOOTING & SUPPORT
My HearSound product is not charging — what should I check first?
Gold & Headphones: Make sure the USB-C charging cable is pushed all the way into the headset until you feel a slight click. Confirm that you are using the included USB-C cable, that it is connected to the provided USB wall adapter, and that the adapter is plugged into power.
Platinum & Double Platinum: Place the headset in the cradle. Look closely — there are small grooves on the headset that must line up with the accepting fin inside the cradle. The headset will only charge when these align correctly. Visually inspect to ensure the groove and fin fit together and the headset is seated fully into the charging cradle.
SoundBall: Make sure the USB-C charging cable is fully inserted into the SoundBall until you feel a slight click. Use the included USB-C cable with the provided wall adapter, and confirm the adapter is securely plugged into a power outlet.
My headset/headphones are in the charging cradle but the blue light isn’t flashing — what does that mean?
If the light is not flashing, the headset may already be fully charged or it may not be inserted in the correct orientation. Remove the headset, look for the groove on the headset and the fin inside the cradle, then reinsert carefully so they line up. The blue light on the headset will flash when charging begins.
My HearSound headset/headphones are not producing the sound from my TV — what should I check?
• Have you paired your headphones/headset to the transmitter?
• Did you remove the rubber tips from the optical cable before connecting it into the transmitter?
• Is the transmitter powered on?
• Is the transmitter’s blue light on the correct source (Optical or AUX)?
• Is the TV audio output set correctly? (PCM mode if using the preferred Digital Optical Audio Cable)
The transmitter’s blue light doesn’t match my audio cable connection — how do I change it?
Press the Source button on the front of the transmitter until the blue light lines up with the audio connection type you are using (Optical, AUX, or Coaxial).
Why does my headset keep flashing blue instead of showing solid blue?
A flashing blue light (when not charging) means the headset is powered on but not paired with the transmitter. This only applies when the headset is not connected to power. Re-pair the headset using the pairing steps or video guides.
I used the Digital Optical Audio Cable, but I still don’t hear sound after setup — what should I try next?
If you still don’t hear sound after checking your connections, your TV’s audio settings may need to be adjusted. Many TVs default to an audio format that needs to be changed to PCM. Here are general steps for popular brands (refer to your TV’s manual for exact instructions):
Samsung – Home/Menu ► Settings ► Sound ► Expert Settings or Additional Settings ► Digital Audio Out / Audio Format ► Set to PCM
LG – Settings (gear icon) ► All Settings ► Sound ► Sound Out ► Internal TV Speaker + Audio Out (Optical)
TCL & Roku – Home ► Settings ► Audio ► Digital Audio Output ► Set to PCM
Vizio – Menu ► TV Settings ► Audio ► Advanced Audio Settings ► Digital Audio Out ► Set to PCM
Hisense – Home ► Settings ► Audio ► Digital Audio Output ► Set to PCM
Insignia – Menu ► Audio Settings or Sound Settings ► Digital Audio Output ► Set to PCM
Sony – Use Headphone Jack with Simultaneous Audio Output ► Plug in 3.5mm cable to TV’s headphone jack ► Menu ► Audio Out Settings ► Enable Simultaneous Output to TV speakers and headphones. (On some older Sony TVs this may not work if a soundbar or HDMI device is connected.)
*These are general guidelines. Always refer to your TV’s owner manual for the most accurate instructions.
